2019 ELECTION VIOLENCE IN NIGERIA

Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) HAS has announced the postponement of the elections in some parts of Lagos, Rivers and Anambra States following disruption of the exercise due to violence shooting and killings.

In particular, INEC said races in Akuku Toru and Bonny neighborhood government zones of Rivers state just as a few pieces of Anambra and Lagos would be directed on a later date, saying for the most part influenced is the challenge for the administrative authoritative seats.

"The commission has gotten reports of savagery and polling booth grabbing in a few territories prompting the interruption of the procedure.

We have asked the Resident Electoral Commissioners RECs and the Electoral Officials on ground to present their firsthand reports in connection to a portion of these episodes.

We are as yet getting reports identifying with rates in a few conditions of the league yet we have gotten reports identifying with frequencies in Akuku Toru and Bonny neighborhood government regions of Rivers state.

In so far as the commission couldn't send in these territories, the suggestion is that casting a ballot did not happen in those zones and the commission will hold discussions with the significant specialists and the Resident Electoral Commissioners RECs in connection to these regions and will report the date when surveys will occur in a portion of these zones, particularly in connection to the regions as they influence the House of Representatives and Senatorial races.

In some of the Local government in Rivers state this are the violence that took place.

"It isn't just in Rivers that we had reports of consuming of appointive materials. We have such reports from Anambra and Lagos states just as some different spots", he included.

The peace town of Bonny Island was one of the Local government that election did not take place based on violence shooting and putting corp members on stress and pains.

"In Bonny, there was no race by any stretch of the imagination. The activity there has been deferred. It will hang on one more day." "Thusly casting a ballot did not hold in the influenced enrollment zone (ward)." "The situation of the commission is that decision will be directed independently for that enlistment territory later."

Meanwhile, the APC Publicity Secretary, Rivers State, Senibo Chris Finebone, has blamed the PDP for being behind the savagery in the territories.

But report gotten from Bonny Island from a reliable witness Telma Jumbo, She said that elections could not hold in Bonny and they did not leave the inec office because of APC members stopped materials and personnel from leaving the INEC office. They were protesting and acusing the EO of presenting fake materials.
The APC supporters reportedly alleged that the ballot papers deployed to the area were fake.

Mr Opuade Abbey in Bonny, said the area had been taken over by armed security operatives including soldiers due to the force of the APCs.
